What the role is

The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development.
Applications are invited for:

Manager, Editorial (1 to 2 Year Contract)

This role will be a key member of the ISEAS Publishing Division and will contribute strategically to the sustenance, continuity, and relevance of the dissemination of cutting-edge scholarships to the local and global research community in the area of Southeast Asian Studies.

What you will be working on

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Copyedit book and journal manuscripts  for high editorial standards, consistency, spelling, clarity.

  • Excellent time management. To ensure all publications to be out on time.

  • Brief and perform quality checks on work undertaken by contracted vendors at the various stages of book production (typesetters, cover designers, indexers and printers).

  • Correspond with authors and contributors for editorial work done.

  • Discuss and work closely with marketing and sales colleagues for ways to promote and sell publications.

  • Discuss and participate in collaborations with partner institutions on co-publishing projects.

  • Prepare and draft author’s agreements.

  • In charge of preparing the Rights Booklet and uploading it to the Division’s website every quarter of the year.

  • Handling work on the Government Electronic Business System (Gebiz) 

  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Publishing.

What we are looking for

Requirements: 

  • Tertiary qualifications with background in Arts & Social Sciences/General Sciences/English from a recognised institution.
  • At least 3 years’ of experience in editing academic papers or books (Possessing a specialist diploma in publishing will be an advantage).
  • High level of precision in grammar, punctuation and technical terminology.
  • Proficiency in both structural and copy editing, ensuring clarity, coherence and academic rigour.
  • Knowledge of publishing-related software/tools with be desirable.
  • A dynamic and highly driven individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Meticulous, resourceful, able to multi-task and having a keen eye for details.

Remuneration and benefits will depend on the candidate’s qualification and experience.
