About Heritage Conservation Centre, Singapore
The National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore, and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is an institution of NHB. It is a purpose-built facility for the storage and conservation of the National Collection comprising artworks and artefacts. Its mission is to care for, manage and facilitate access to the National Collection.

Paper, Photograph and Digital Media (PPDM) section

Working in close collaboration with the members of the PPDM section, the essential job functions are described as follows:

  • Perform conservation assessments, documentation and treatments on artworks and artefacts in accordance to HCC procedures for projects, exhibitions and events for museums and institutions under NHB, Heritage Institutions and the Visual Arts Cluster.

  • Conduct preventive care which includes but not limited to carrying out and overseeing the mounting and framing of paper works, re-housing work, providing advice on the environmental settings for storage or exhibitions purposes.

  • Support exhibitions by ensuring that the paper works are safe for display, including any on-site installation and de-installation work and to provide advice on the handling and display requirements whenever necessary. This includes being the liaison officer for the section on assigned exhibitions projects.

  • Participate and share administrative duties in the section, ranging from coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, minutes-taking, report writing and any procurement work as assigned by the Head of Section.

  • Involved in conservation and/or preservation related working groups based at HCC, conservation research, outreach activities or any other ah-hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Background in Conservation, with a speciality in conserving paper-based collection with a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ work experience as a full time staff.

  • Ability to carry out comprehensive, well documented treatments with high degree of manual dexterity.

  • Experience in the conservation of photographs, as well as modern and contemporary artworks will be preferred.

  • Familiarity and experience with cultural materials in Southeast Asia will be advantageous.

  • Initiative with ability to multi-task, organise and prioritise work within a given timeline.

  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as collaboratively within in a team.

  • Ability to adapt in a multi-lingual and multi-racial environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Maturity to handle difficult situations, builds and sustains positive relationships with team members and stakeholders.

  • Evidence of continual professional development is strongly desirable
