What the role is

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore's strategic maritime interests. MPA is the driving force behind Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative.

You will be part of MPA’s Strategy & Policy function which helps to drive MPA’s medium to long term direction to achieve Maritime Singapore’s vision as the world’s leading maritime hub. As a member of the Hub Strategy team, you will shape maritime strategies through the application of economics thinking, conducting of economic analysis, and forecasting of market trends. As part of this portfolio, you will also have the opportunity to be exposed to a diverse range of issues, as well as work on both qualitative and quantitative research projects to analyse strategic issues and facilitate management’s decision-making.

What you will be working on

Responsibilities:

The role of Assistant Manager / Manager / Senior Manager for the Hub Strategy Department includes (but is not limited to):

  • Conduct research and surveillance of global/domestic economic trends (e.g. trade flows, value-add, productivity) and maritime developments (e.g. supply chains, freight markets).

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to provide meaningful insights and assess the implications on Maritime Singapore.

  • Forecast trends and develop frameworks/models to stimulate different perspectives/scenarios.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to effectively communicate analytical findings to stakeholders.

What we are looking for

  • Strong analytical (both quantitative and qualitative) skills, with passion to acquire knowledge in a diverse range of issues, and the ability to think critically and develop thoughtful opinions.

  • Good quantitative skills (e.g. econometrics, data science) for forecasting, modelling, impact assessments.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as able to work effectively in teams.

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office software such as Word and PowerPoint. Experience or familiarity in programming languages and software such as Python and Power BI is an advantage.

  • You should have a good degree preferably in Economics. Fresh graduates are also welcome to apply. Position will commensurate with experience.
