What the role is

IMDA is spearheading Singapore’s drive to be a world leading Digital Economy. We want to empower our companies and workforce with digital technologies and enable Singapore to be a leading Digital Economy globally.

The Business Technology Group (BTG) within IMDA aims to introduce innovative emerging technology assets to our local industry to catalyse digital transformation. We closely collaborate with researchers to develop novel sciences and with industry to drive adoption of emerging technologies.

As a Deputy Director in Artificial Intelligence and Trust, you will play a crucial role in advancing Singapore's position in the AI and Trust landscape. Your work will focus on developing cutting-edge AI solutions, particularly in generative AI, while also considering AI safety and trust aspects. You will contribute significantly to Singapore's AI ecosystem development across various sectors including legal, healthcare, and others.

What you will be working on

What You Will Be Working On

  • Lead a team of a few experts in AI and Trust, providing guidance, mentorship, and strategic direction.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of strategic plans for AI and Trust initiatives in Singapore.
  • Conduct thorough technical due diligence on key AI technology providers and unbox technical details from articles, serving as a key resource for AI knowledge within the organization.
  • Lead the development of generative AI solutions, focusing on both software and hardware aspects. Collaborate with technical and domain experts to identify and develop early use cases and prototypes.
  • Contribute to ongoing AI initiatives including AI hardware benchmarking, agentic AI, and embodied AI projects.
  • Incorporate AI safety and trust considerations into AI development processes, ensuring responsible and ethical AI implementation.
  • Craft and eventually run grant programs for end-users' AI adoption. Support other grant programs aimed at growing the AI ecosystem in Singapore, encompassing technology providers' research and commercialization, and manpower development.
  • Facilitate and support AI workshops, events, and overseas trips to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration within the AI community.

What We Are Looking For

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field. PhD is preferred.
  • Strong AI literacy, with a solid understanding of generative AI principles and development practices.
  • At least several years of hands-on experience in AI development, with demonstrated ability to build and deploy AI solutions in real-world scenarios; with at least a few years of management experience.
  • Experience in AI safety and trust considerations, with the ability to integrate these aspects into AI development processes.
  • Familiarity with AI applications in various sectors, such as legal, healthcare, and others.
  • Experience in partnering with local research ecosystems and government agencies in technology-related projects.
  • Excellent analytical skills for conducting technical due diligence and interpreting research findings.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in grant program development or similar initiatives in the technology sector is a plus.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in AI development (e.g., Python) and familiarity with AI frameworks and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AI hardware benchmarking, agentic AI, or embodied AI is highly desirable.
