What the role is

The National Museum of Singapore (NMS) is the oldest museum in the island country. It is a people’s museum with more than 150 years of history. It showcases artefacts and artworks, presenting Singapore and regional history and culture. We are looking for an individual to join our Exhibitions and Collections team.

In this role, you will contribute to the smooth and efficient management of the museums’ collection-related functions.

What you will be working on

  • Administration of incoming loans, including execution of legal agreements, insurance, plan and procure services for logistics, condition reporting and conservation. Attend to customs / CITES / Arms & Explosives requirements and inspections, as well as couriering of shipments when required.
  • Plan and conduct stock take of all the artefacts in the galleries
  • Manage budgets, procurement work, project timeline and arrange logistics for incoming loans, donations and/or purchases, which include overseas freight.
  • Support for exhibitions, gallery rotation and gallery maintenance works, including scheduling, artefact movement tracking, art-handling supervision, logistics and conservation arrangements.
  • Maintenance up-to-date artefact inventory date and movement records
  • Maintain good preventive conservation (including pest management) and housekeeping practices in the transit stores and galleries.
  • Effective communication and liaison with stakeholders, project partners, curators, project managers, exhibition managers, Heritage Conservation Centre etc.
  • Document and file/e-file necessary related documents.
  • Handle ad-hoc assignments as and when required.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

What we are looking for

  • Preferably with 1 to 2 years’ experience in the art and culture industry, especially in museums and galleries
  • Possess knowledge in arts management will be an advantage
  • Able to multi-task and work within tight project timelines
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Competency in office administrative functions, government records management and procurement procedures will be an advantage.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Proactive, meticulous, and resourceful.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Keen interest in culture and the arts; sensitivity to historical artefacts
  • Willing to work flexible hours including nights, weekends or holidays when required
