What the role is

Placemaking efforts in Singapore have gained momentum over the last few decades, evolving from coordinated initiatives at Marina Bay in the early 2000s to a more sustainable, stakeholder-led model across multiple districts today. As part of URA's Conservation and Urban Design Group, the Place Management Department (PMD) engages stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and inspires them to collaborate in creating vibrant places and precincts. Our work encompasses: - Formulating placemaking strategies and plans - Managing projects and events - Resolving practical on-ground issues - We believe that collective action and co-creation can drive economic benefits and social transformation for places, precincts, and the city as a whole.

What you will be working on

1) Assist in planning and executing placemaking projects and events, such as: a) Pilot Business Improvement Districts b) Place Management Seminar 2) Conduct research projects including: a) Preparing reports and proposals for presentation b) Analysing data sets when required c) Managing 1-2 dedicated research assignments 3) Participate in outdoor site visits to: a) Assess site conditions b) Engage with stakeholders as needed Learning Outcomes • Gain basic knowledge in placemaking and place management (the various approaches, objectives and intended outcomes). • Acquire some practical experience in event and project management, and stakeholder engagement. • Gain experience in presenting a report or proposal in professional context.

What we are looking for

Undergraduate students who have a keen interest in placemaking / place management. Experience with Python programming, Excel data analysis. Data visualisation will be advantageous. Intern should also be willing to participate in out-of-office engagements.
