What the role is

The Data Innovation and Protection Group (DIPG) is at the frontier of advancing Singapore’s artificial intelligence (AI) and data innovation aspirations through the responsible use of data and AI.

As Architects of Singapore’s Digital Future, our ambition is to establish Singapore as a trusted data hub by laying the strong foundation for organisations to harness the power of AI and data. We achieve this by putting in place strong data governance, empowering a community of data advocates and anchoring Singapore as a global leader in the development and use of trustworthy AI and data tech.

Within the Policy & Technology Division in DIPG, the Data Tech Team is primarily responsible for the following:   

1. Sensemaking emerging technology trends and developments, as well
as data-driven technologies in the marketplace (e.g., privacy-enhancing technologies, use of biometrics etc.), that has implications on Singapore’s data strategies and policies

2. Supporting the formulation, review, and update of frameworks, guidelines and related resources where relevant to our data innovation and protection policies

3. Supporting the investigations of data breach incidents by providing technical know-how and working with external vendors
Managing the implementation of proof-of-concept projects where relevant in support of our data strategies and policies

What you will be working on

  • Leading and managing a technical team with know-how or expertise in the following areas: IT, cybersecurity, data science/engineering as well as emerging technologies such as privacy enhancing technologies;

  • Working collaboratively across the group’s policy, enforcement and ecosystem development teams by lending Data Tech’s know-how and support, so that the group can collectively address opportunities and threats in the data landscape across different domains;

  • Forging strong partnerships with other technical and research teams within and outside the government in support of our data strategies, policies and programmes

What we are looking for

  • At least 10 years of experience in IT/technology consultancy, data science and analytics, data governance, cybersecurity or data forensic roles, with at least a bachelor’s degree in relevant technical disciplines such as Engineering, Mathematics, IT or Computer Science.  Professional certification in the following areas: data science and analytics, data protection or cybersecurity will be an advantage

  • At least 6 years of experience leading and managing teams

  • Good understanding of local and international standards on data governance, data protection, and information security.

  • Some experience and understanding of international laws and diplomacy would be advantageous.

Position will be commensurate with experience.
