What the role is
What you will be working on
Officer will be expected to:
- Develop and implement food safety monitoring initiatives to detect and understand the transmission patterns of emerging foodborne zoonotic diseases
- Design and conduct epidemiological studies to deepen our understanding of the risk amplifiers for foodborne zoonoses
- Support the development of plans covering the collection, processing, analysis and sense-making of food safety and epidemiological data
- Derive meaningful insights from data to inform food safety risk assessment and help guide ops & policy measures for early preparedness and management of foodborne diseases
- Foster research collaborations within and across organisations, on projects that support the national foodborne illness reduction strategy and collectively contribute to improving food safety in Singapore
- Translate and communicate key findings from research studies to various stakeholders through project reports, presentations to Management and engagement sessions with external stakeholders
- Contribute to the building of SFA’s scientific credibility through presentation of research findings at conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Support in administrative work including procurement, preparation of project proposals and/or agreements, and management of food safety monitoring and epidemiological research programmes
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree (Master’s of PhD) in biostatistics, epidemiology or an equivalent discipline (e.g. life sciences), or relevant working experience in a related field (e.g. public health research)
- Experience in using software for data analysis and visualisation (e.g. SPSS, Stata, PowerBI, Tableau). Familiarity with programming languages (e.g. Python or R) will be an advantage
- Knowledge of epidemiological study designs and statistical/mathematical modelling concepts is a plus
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to learn and apply new and relevant tools and techniques to process and analyse datasets
- Aptitude in creating charts and graphs using sound data visualisation principles
- Highly driven and takes the initiative to conduct research independently with minimal supervision
- Capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams, and open to development opportunities
- Able to manage multiple priorities concurrently and deliver quality work timely in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communications (written and spoken) skills
- A record of high-quality scientific research, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals is an advantage

About Singapore Food Agency
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health.
The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
