What the role is
What you will be working on
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Culinary Instructor to join our teaching team at Bistro Lab — a unique Learning Enterprise that provides students with hands-on training in hot kitchen operations, baking and pastry, customer service, and novel food product development.
The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in culinary cooking applications, particularly in hot kitchen operations, and demonstrate a nurturing approach to student mentorship. While the core focus is on culinary arts, versatility in other F&B areas (e.g. basic baking or café service) would be an added advantage. The key responsibilities are as follows:
- Supervise and support Bistro Lab’s daily food production and service operations in a teaching environment
- Deliver culinary modules aligned with curriculum and industry standards
- Conduct hands-on cooking demonstrations with emphasis on culinary techniques, ingredient functionality, and food science
- Instruct students on food safety, hygiene practices, and proper equipment handling
- Conduct assessments to evaluate both theoretical knowledge and practical skills
- Mentor students and provide constructive feedback to support their learning and professional growth
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized teaching kitchen
- Collaborate with fellow instructors to integrate Bistro Lab activities with academic objectives
- Stay current with culinary industry trends and incorporate relevant insights into teaching
What we are looking for
- Qualification in Culinary Arts or in a related field
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience; teaching or supervisory experience is preferred
- Knowledge of food science, recipe development, and ingredient interactions is preferred
- Proven experience in managing hot kitchen operations is essential
- Versatility in café or basic baking operations is an added advantage
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
