What the role is

Purpose of Job

The mission of SFA is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

As more than 90% of Singapore’s food is imported, food security is about ensuring that there is a supply of safe food to sustain their nutritional needs when there is a supply disruption.

What you will be working on

Duties

Reporting to Director (Food Reserve), Deputy Director, Operations Planning and Contingency (OPC) leads a team of officers to execute the following roles: -

  • Strategise and execute policies to strengthen food security resiliency.

  • Appoint and work closely with industry players and stakeholders in building up food security resiliency and sufficiency for essential food items.

  • Work closely with key government stakeholders, relevant agencies and international partners on food security resiliency and sufficiency strategies and projects.

  • Identifying risks and vulnerabilities for governance and financial stewardship as well as recommending service level improvements and initiatives that reduce costs, mitigates risks and losses.

  • Evaluate sourcing, procurement, logistics, storage and sales plans developed by our partners and ensure strict compliance of contractual requirements at the best value to the government.

  • Work closely with internal divisions and to plan for potential disruptions and volatility in distribution and reinforce overall sustainability and resilience in the supply chain network.

  • Prepare, analyse and report key food security resiliency data & information reporting on essential food items to senior management for policy development and decision making. 

What we are looking for

Qualifications/ Other Requirements

  • Preferably at least 5 years of relevant experience Supply Chain experience.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge in the principles of governance, risks and controls.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with relevant experience in engaging relevant stakeholders within and outside organisation.

  • Possess strong analytical skills with an eye for details and ability to comprehend the big picture.

  • Ability to manage complex issues and interrelated factors, to cope with “uncertainties” and “grey” areas in information management and analysis.

  • Able to lead a team under time-constraint, in a fast-paced environment and comfortable to also work with other teams to develop the required outcomes.

  • Strong command of written and spoken English; able to speak and present to a large audience.

About Singapore Food Agency

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health. The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
