You will be attached to an Urban Design Studio in HDB's Urban Planning Group to assist in documenting the evolution of HDB typologies across 3 scales – building scale, neighbourhood centre and town structure – from the 1960s to present day.
HDB has a 65-year legacy of developing public housing and residential towns for Singapore, with a large hand in shaping the homes and daily lives of more than 80% of our population. This documentation aims to help current and future generations of architects and planners learn from this rich history as they continue designing and building public housing for the future.
During your internship, you can expect to be involved in the following:
- architectural drawing, modelling and compilation of different HDB typologies into a library of 2D drawings and 3D models
- conducting site visits with ground observations and photo documentation of HDB towns
- analysing the challenges and successes of various typologies
- referencing publications and other materials to develop a narrative on the evolution of HDB typologies
- interviewing present and past HDB architects and planners, transcribing interviews and gleaning insights from the thinking behind the architectural design and typologies of their day
