About the Role
The GovTech Design Practice looking for a strategic, creative, and systems-minded Lead, Design Strategy and Communications to strengthen the quality, coherence, and visibility of design across government digital services. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in design and communications who is excited to operate at the intersection of storytelling, service quality, and systems thinking.
You’ll work closely with designers, product teams, and leadership to shape how design quality is defined, practiced, and communicated. You will develop standards and frameworks that enable better usability, accessibility, and usefulness, while also building the communication strategies that help teams, leaders, and the public understand the value of great design. Your role will help make good design easier to do—and easier to support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead initiatives that improve design quality and maturity across product teams.
Create and maintain design standards, quality indicators, and shared best practices that enable cohesive user-centred service delivery.
Shape and implement communication strategies that explain and elevate the role of design across internal and external stakeholders.
Produce and support communications materials such as design case studies, internal newsletters, leadership briefs, visual summaries, and public-facing reports.
Support teams in embedding usability, accessibility, and inclusive design principles into their work.
Develop toolkits, templates, and guidance that enable teams to deliver better design outcomes.
Partner with designers, product managers, and engineers to ensure design quality is integrated into delivery practices.
Provide thought leadership and strategic advice to design teams on how to tell the story of their work.
Act as a coach and advocate for quality, consistency, and clarity in both design practice and design communication.
