What the role is

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.

The Wildlife Trade branch in Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) Cluster implements and enforces the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulations, ensuring that wildlife trade in Singapore is safe and sustainable.

What you will be working on

We are looking for a driven and self-motivated individual to join the Wildlife Trade branch. You will champion the promotion of safe, sustainable wildlife trade and a healthy human-wildlife interface aligning with One Health, in both regional and international arenas.

This dynamic role will support Wildlife Trade Branch's key initiatives through close engagement with youth networks and international partners. Key work areas include coordinating the World Wildlife Day Regional Youth Symposium, supporting WOAH Collaborating Centre activities in wildlife health management and trade regulations, managing post-CITES CoP20 implementation work, and handling stakeholder relations for high-level events involving POHs and international participants.

- Organise international or regional events contributing to wildlife trade and health, including event planning, volunteer management, fundraising, donor management, partnership cultivation, administrative support etc.

- Build partnerships with national CITES authorities, non-governmental organisations, youth organisations, academic institutions and more to promote involvement in CITES and WOAH activities

- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication and outreach strategies to grow the international youth network

- Provide support for CITES, WOAH and wildlife trade related work as required

What we are looking for

- Areas of studies in biological sciences, environmental sciences, veterinary sciences, wildlife and conservation sciences, or related disciplines
- Strong analytical, organisational and management skills with meticulous attention to detail

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities
- Relevant experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
    - Analysing animal disease, wildlife trade or conservation data to provide evidence-based recommendations
    - Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships through effective engagement and communication
