The primary purpose of the job is to perform the duties of an academic lecturer. He or she will be involved in clinical supervision of students and provide eye examination/consultation services for patients in Singapore Polytechnic Optometry Centre (SPOC). The job of a lecturer is a challenging yet meaningful one. Not only will he or she need to have both technical knowledge and working experience in the relevant discipline, he or she must also possess a passion for Pre-Employment Training (PET), Continuing Education and Training (CET) and Industry Engagement (IE), which involve working with young and adult learners, nurturing them to be work ready, life ready and world ready, as well as supporting companies in their growth and transformation. There will be developmental opportunities to develop syllabus, introduce new programmes as well as be involved in overseas student learning trips. Additionally, administrative work related to teaching and school/ institutional strategic initiatives will also be an important part of the job. The successful candidate is expected to be a good team player who is resilient, resourceful and innovative, and possesses good communication skills.
The successful candidate must be competent to develop content and teach in at least two of the following subject areas:
• Geometrical and Physical Optics, Physiological and Visual Optics
• Contact Lens and Contact Lens Complications
• Ophthalmic Optics and Dispensing
• Clinical Optometry
• Ocular Diseases
• Binocular Vision
• Paediatric Optometry
