What the role is

MDDI’s mission is to create the conditions for a thriving digital future for businesses and citizens. At the Digital Economy Office (DEO), we carry out this mandate through policies and funding that enable innovative and sustainable growth in the digital economy, to benefit businesses and the workforce. Infrastructure and regulations are also levers to enable opportunity and ensure a fair and resilient playing field, so that we fully and safely harness the potential of emerging technologies.

What you will be working on

We are looking for dynamic, purpose-driven individuals with a passion for technology, and who appreciate how Government is an advocate and enabler for long-term growth. We want people who have a vision for what technology can do and can effectively communicate this both verbally and in writing. We are also looking for collaborative problem solvers that thrive in complex and fast-moving environments. In addition to industry partners – such as innovators, investors, tech companies and key associations – we work closely with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Cybersecurity Agency (CSA), Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO), Government Technology Agency (GovTech), the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), and Digital Industries Singapore (DISG) as well as other Whole-of-Government stakeholders. · Analyse and understand the intersection of tech and industry developments, to identify salient trends and the opportunities/threats they present for Singapore; · Formulate policy responses to advance Singapore’s longer-term interests, including by developing policy principles, and deploying the full suite of Government interventions within the economic domain (e.g. innovation and infrastructure investments, regulations, partnerships, direct provision, accreditation, and standard-setting, among others); · Work across other parts of Government (including the agencies mentioned above) to translate growth in the Digital Economy into opportunities for value creation and good jobs, while managing trade-offs in the security and social domains; · Strategically review the budgets and programmes for Digital Economy initiatives delivered by our statutory boards; and You might be interested in this job if you: · Are challenge-oriented and outcomes-driven, and thrive on dynamic team-based environments; · Enjoy hunting for opportunities, and prefer creating new value in nascent areas; and · Have expertise and networks in economic and tech development, and enjoy working on long-term Government solutions for systemic and generational impact.

What we are looking for

· Background in STEM, Law, Economics, Social Sciences preferred · Experience in public policy or project management roles within the tech industry would be advantageous; · Strong analytical, evaluating and synthesizing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken form; · A learner’s mindset, with diverse interests (especially within the tech and media domains); · Team players with strong leadership and inter-personal skills, including working with a wide range of industry and institutional stakeholders We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates would be notified.
