What the role is

System-of-Systems Synergies and Optimisation (SoS-SO) is a process to examine the interactions between two or more distinct systems to look for synergies and optimisation. The defining characteristic of SoS is the emergent behaviour arising from constituent system interactions. Examples of SoS-SO project include the Underground Drainage Reservoir/Pumped Storage Hydropower Project and the Tuas Nexus. The role is with the SoS-SO Directorate in the Public Sector Science and Technology Policy and Plans Office (S&TPPO) and involves dual reporting to a supervisor in the Energy Market Authority. The Directorate plans, coordinates, and executes cross-agency initiatives that identify and harness synergies across large-scale, sectoral Science & Technology (S&T) programmes.

What you will be working on

• Support the Energy Resilience workstream. Analyse system requirements and the inter-linkages to find synergies for optimising solutions to national challenges. • Work with subject matter experts and use modelling and simulations to develop and evaluate concepts and architectures of a resilient energy system. • Ensure alignment between EMA’s science and technology (S&T) policies and plans with national S&T priorities set out by S&TPPO. • Distil lessons and best practices from past and ongoing SoS-SO projects and institutionalise a framework to promulgate wider adoption of SoS-SO process within Public Service.

What we are looking for

• Strong technical background in Science or Engineering or Materials Science, or related field • Min 3 years of work experience in relevant areas, with technical background in fields related to Energy Systems or in the Science or Engineering field

About Science and Technology Policy And Plans Office

The Public Sector Science and Technology Policy and Plans Office (S&TPPO) is a department under the Prime Minister’s Office and serves as the functional leader for the Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) domain in public sector. We collaborate with other centre-of-government agencies to identify, resource and review key STE capabilities, and leverage STE as an enabler to transform operations to deliver more cost-effective and cost-efficient outcomes, thereby building a future-ready and more sustainable Singapore. S&TPPO also aims to develop and implement HR strategies and levers to strengthen capability development and career value proposition of STE professionals in the Singapore Public Service.
