What the role is
You will assist to manage the Legal Aid Bureau’s (LAB) external relations and outreach programmes, for groups such as volunteer lawyers (Assigned Solicitors) and interns, and supervise the legal aid applications assigned out to LAB’s Assigned Solicitors.
What you will be working on
The work will include:
a) monitoring and managing assigned legal aid applications independently, interacting with Assigned Solicitors and assisting Legal Officers, if necessary,
b) contacting relevant parties and stakeholders,
c) assisting in commissioning of court documents as a Commissioner for Oaths,
d) e-Filing of LAB related court documents using elitigation/iFAMs,
e) managing and reviewing general enquiries and feedback,
f) managing correspondence from Members of Parliament/external parties pertaining to LAB matters,
g) facilitating Legal Aid Board Meetings on a regular basis,
h) organising annual event(s) to engage, recognize and reward LAB’s volunteers,
i) assisting with other projects undertaken by the Bureau. Examples of such projects include communications and publicity plans, assisting in review and crafting work process SOPs, I.T. systems enhancements, efficiency projects, etc.
What we are looking for
• Strong communication and writing skills
• The ability to grasp and understand complex legal concepts and work processes
• Strong IT skills in MS Office packages
• Good people skills - Ability to work well in teams and with stakeholders
• Fluent in English and mother tongue (Mandarin)
• Good grasp of basic legal principles/processes would be an advantage
