What the role is

The intern will be based at the ISEAS IT office to assist with the asset management process in Information Technology (IT) Division. The aim is to ensure decommissioned assets are being disposed of with proper documentation in place.

ISEAS IT Infrastructure unit is managing assets such as notebooks, external monitors, printers, network switches and servers. Many assets have been decommissioned and are due to be disposed. The team needs to work with the Fixed Asset (FA) team from Corporate Services Division to dispose of these assets. Before disposal takes place, the team is required to accurately record the necessary details of the asset and seek approval from upper management, including the FA team.

The team is also required to separate or disassemble external storage drives from assets such as desktops and notebooks. External storage drives need to be degaussed in accordance with the IT Policies and Procedures. The FA team will engage external vendors to dispose of the assets and degauss the storage drives. IT Infrastructure unit will require a representative to facilitate the disposal process.

Aside from being involved with asset disposal, there may be opportunities to assist the team with other infrastructure-related tasks.

The intern will be expected to participate in the following tasks:

  • Conduct stocktakes of assets to be disposed of (physical work is involved as assets need to be moved around in the disposal area for a proper stocktake to be done. The weight of asset varies from 2kg to 8kg. The team will assist if 2 persons are required to carry the asset.)
  • Accurately record the serial number, asset tag number and model of the asset to be disposed.
  • Count the number of hard disks to be degaussed.
  • Liaise with the FA team for the asset disposal process
  • Put up the disposal form and get endorsement from the necessary parties involved.
  • Assist the IT Infrastructure team with other tasks where needed.

  • Interest in knowing how assets are managed in the IT division
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Motivated self-starter and must possess team spirit and initiative

  • Nov 2023 – Jan 2024
