What the role is
As a Senior Assistant Director of the Financial Planning branch, you will oversee the team responsible for budget planning, financial performance reporting and grant management. You will drive integrated budgetary processes across OPEX, CAPEX, virement, and grants, while championing the use of data and digital tools to support decision-making and enhance operational effectiveness. You will also play a key role in shaping financial governance, business partnering, and team capability development.
What you will be working on
Your key responsibilities would include but not limited to:
• Lead the formulation, monitoring, and review of operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and funding requirements.
• Supervise finance officers supporting grant drawdowns, virement control and financial performance reporting.
• Oversee the development and use of financial dashboards, and analytical and reporting tools (e.g. Qlik, Power Pivot), and support functional leads in maintaining them.
• Drive continuous improvement of financial planning processes, including system enhancements and digital initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to public sector financial policies, audit readiness, and effective internal controls.
• Build team capability and promote cross-functional collaboration.
What we are looking for
• Degree in Accountancy, Finance or Business
• Strong financial management experience, particularly in budget planning, monitoring, and reporting across both OPEX and CAPEX domains.
• Experience in organisations with large asset bases or in the infrastructure space would be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of public sector finance policies, funding frameworks, and governance standards.
• Sound supervisory and leadership skills
• Effective communications and business partnering skills
