What the role is

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.

The Wildlife Management Division in Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) Cluster manages wildlife in Singapore and engages the community on human-wildlife encounters in our City in Nature.

What you will be working on

We are seeking passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team working on projects in urban ecology and wildlife management.

Key duties include the following:

  • Conducting extensive fieldwork in diverse environments, and performing in-depth data analysis to enhance our understanding of forest and urban wildlife ecosystems

  • Collect and analyse macaque census and behavioural data, for on-going population monitoring and sterilization programs   

  • Collect and analyse urban bird abundance and feedback data to make recommendations for ongoing management programs

  • Support wildlife management projects and coordinate with other departments and research partners to ensure smooth progression of projects.

What we are looking for

  • Area of studies in Ecology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Life Sciences, or any science related discipline is preferred

  • Relevant research experience conducting field surveys for population monitoring and animal behavioural ecology, with a focus on mammals and birds preferred.

  • Knowledge of data analysis using R Programming and Geographic Information System (GIS) software is preferred.

  • Possess good writing, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Willing to work irregular hours according to species observational requirements

  • Enjoys working in an outdoor environment and preferably possessing a Class 3 driving license
