The Deputy Director/Assistant Director of NLB Academy will play a pivotal role in supporting the Director in driving the growth and development of the new NLB Academy. This position entails close collaboration with the Director and co-leading the team to ensure the effective implementation of strategic initiatives and the overall success of the NLB Academy.

What you will be working on

  • Support the Director in conceptualising and driving the strategic direction and growth of the NLB Academy, ensuring alignment with NLB’s overall vision and mission.
  • Provide leadership in business development efforts, cultivating and sustaining high-level partnerships with government agencies, industry partners, and training institutions to expand the Academy’s reach and influence.
  • Oversee comprehensive assessments of opportunities and risks in emerging markets, and steer the team in exploring, shaping, and capturing new areas of growth for the Academy.
  • Oversee and ensure effective management of the Academy’s operations, including programme development, stakeholder engagement, budget planning, and reporting.
  • Supervise and guide staff in building and strengthening a pool of internal and external trainers, and ensure the design and delivery of impactful, high-quality programmes tailored to the sector and market needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff to foster a high-performing, innovative, and collaborative work culture within the Academy.

What we are looking for

  • A strong track record with at least 9 years of relevant experience in Continuing Education and Training, Learning and Development or a related profession.
  • Those with experience in Business Development would have an added advantage.
  • Passionate about current and emerging trends in library and information science, continuous education, and professional development.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, think strategically, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.


The successful candidate will be appointed on a 2- year contract in the first instance.
