Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment

Senior Executive / Assistant Director (Public Sector Sustainability Office)

Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment

Permanent/Contract

Closing on 14 Oct 2025

What the role is

Singapore has been widely recognised as a clean and green city for the last few decades. Shortly after independence, we started putting in place policies to improve the quality of life. The Keep Singapore Clean campaign was launched in 1968 to address the problem of littering. In 1971, the Clean Air Act was introduced to control industrial pollution, just as Singapore was industrialising rapidly. We also unveiled the first water conservation campaign in the same year, to encourage the public to reduce water consumption. Environmental sustainability remains a key priority for the Government. Over the last few years, we launched the Singapore Green Plan 2030, GreenGov.SG and the SG Eco Fund to advance Singapore’s efforts in environmental sustainability and climate action. The Public Sector Sustainability Office (PSSO) oversees Whole-of-Government environmental sustainability policies and strategies. These include the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and GreenGov.SG. We are looking for a Senior Executive / Assistant Director to be part of the Public Sector Sustainability Office.

What you will be working on

• Reviewing the national sustainability agenda, by taking into account latest market developments, international practices, benchmarks and stakeholder views. • Developing Singapore’s environmental sustainability goals, policies and strategies, with careful consideration of other national priorities, synergies and trade-offs. • Formulating and implementing strategies to enhance sustainability policies within the public service, in areas such as asset management, energy and resource efficiencies, procurement, measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), as well as capability and culture building. • Implementing sustainability policies and programmes across Whole-of-Government, including the review and administration of a building energy efficiency grant programme for public sector buildings. • Supporting the development of a centralised digital platform with data analytics tools to enable agencies to report environmental data, benchmark their performance and derive actionable insights to reduce environmental footprint. • Driving inter-agency efforts and stakeholder engagement to support programmes and grants, monitor their uptake and outcomes, and ensure alignment with GreenGov.SG goals

What we are looking for

• Preferably at least 2-3 years of working experience, either in a public policy setting or a sustainability-related field • Have strong analytical and numerical skills. • Have strong written and communication skills. • Have strong networking skills to foster effective and enduring collaborations. • Have a passion and openness to learn. • Able to work independently and within a team. • Have a decent level of proficiency in data analytics. • Experience with public sector grant management and/or product management for digital platforms would be viewed favourably.
