What the role is

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector. The Data Management Traineeship provides hands-on experience in ensuring data quality, integrity, and reliability across healthcare data systems. Trainees will develop technical and analytical skills in data validation, quality assurance, automated framework development, and data request processing to support data-driven healthcare decision-making and stakeholder needs.

What you will be working on

Data Quality Assurance: • Build automated data quality checks for ingested data, covering both technical validations (e.g., schema, nulls, duplicates) and business rule compliance to ensure data reliability and integrity • Develop and implement data profiling techniques to identify anomalies and inconsistencies • Monitor data pipelines and flag quality issues for remediation Automation Framework Development: • Build automated framework for data validations to streamline quality assurance processes • Design reusable validation scripts and templates for new data sources • Document validation procedures and maintain quality check libraries Data Analysis and Reporting: • Generate data quality reports and dashboards for stakeholders • Analyse data patterns and trends to identify potential quality improvements Data Request Processing & Coordination: • Process data requests within division's target turnaround time by validating requirements against use cases, coordinating with internal teams for data extraction, and tracking request status throughout the workflow. • Ensure data accuracy and completeness through systematic verification processes before release to users, maintaining comprehensive documentation of all data provisions and requests.

What we are looking for

Key Competencies Required: • Thinking Clearly & Making Sound Judgements – Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to support the crafting of sound policy recommendations; ability to grasp timelines, operating context and ground realities. • Learning & Putting Skills into Action - Possesses the drive and curiosity to learn and apply new skills, knowledge and new ways of working. • Improving & Innovating – Ability to seek continual improvements, and to innovate and experiment while managing the risks involved. • Working Effectively with Stakeholders – Ability to mobilise and rally partners and stakeholders towards a collective purpose. • Degree/Master’s in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related disciplines • Has some experience with the following: - Knowledge of Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes, data validation frameworks, and quality assurance methodologies. - Data profiling, quality assessment, and implementing automated validation checks across diverse data sources. - Data acquisition and processing, and quality monitoring tools. - Independent data analysis and quality assessment across large volumes of heterogeneous data sources. - Technical Proficiency (at least 2 of the following):  Programming languages (Python, R, SQL) for data analysis and automation  Databases (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Teradata)  Big data platforms (e.g. Hadoop, Databricks)  ETL development using Informatica  Proficiency working with multiple data formats (e.g. JSON, XML)  Structured and unstructured data analytics  Data profiling and anomaly detection  Data transformation, standardisation and terminology equivalence mapping. • Good communication skills, detail-oriented approach, and flexibility to work across different team areas. • Understanding of Singapore healthcare system preferred.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
