What the role is

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector. This traineeship in the National Mental Health Office will help the trainee develop skills in mental health services planning and strategic development of national mental health acute services. The trainee will also be able to take the opportunity to enhance their breadth and depth of knowledge in the mental health and supporting social services space. The portfolio covers a broad range of mental health service areas such as 1) Acute hospital services and their interface with community-based services 2) Crisis care services 3) Mental health services for addictions, persons with intellectual disabilities, neurodivergent individuals, etc. that intersect with social and disability sectors 4) Intermediate and long-term care services

What you will be working on

The trainee will be working on the acute and crisis care services transformation strategy specifically 1) Development of psychiatry outpatient services nationally across all healthcare clusters 2) Development of psychiatry inpatient capacity nationally across all healthcare clusters 3) Development of national emergency psychiatry services – including new model of care across all healthcare clusters 4) Development and implementation of national addictions services strategy

What we are looking for

• University degree, preferably in science / healthcare-related disciplines • Highly numerate, able to work competently on Excel and familiar with statistics • Self-starter who can work independently but also can work as part of a team • Meticulous and pays attention to details • Assiduous with good work ethic • Able to work in fast-paced environment Key Competencies Required: • Thinking Clearly & Making Sound Judgements – Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to support the crafting of sound policy recommendations; ability to grasp timelines, operating context and ground realities. • Learning & Putting Skills into Action - Possesses the drive and curiosity to learn and apply new skills, knowledge and new ways of working. • Improving & Innovating – Ability to seek continual improvements, and to innovate and experiment while managing the risks involved. • Working Effectively with Stakeholders – Ability to work with partners and stakeholders towards a collective purpose.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
