What the role is

The Consumer Product Safety, Weights & Measures Office (PW) of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCS) safeguards consumer safety and fair transactions through accurate measurements in Singapore. As a Senior Executive/ Assistant Director in PW, you will play a key role in developing and administering regulatory regimes, driving public outreach, and shaping policies to ensure accuracy in trade measurements and protect consumer interests and safety. This role requires a balance of technical understanding, policy administration, and public outreach execution.

What you will be working on

Lead and support initiatives under Singapore's Weights & Measures Regime, which requires: • Administration and Policy: o Oversee the verification and inspection of weighing and measuring instruments used for trade purposes. o Assess and designate competent bodies for testing and verifying compliance of weighing & measuring instruments used for trade. o Conduct regular reviews of policies, processes, and legislations related to weights and measures to ensure the framework remains current and relevant. o Participate in local and international technical working group discussions to review and enhance weights and measures standards. o Develop technical expertise in regulated weighing & measuring instruments and pre-packaged goods. • Outreach and stakeholder Engagement: o Plan and execute public outreach programmes to increase awareness of fair measurement practices in trade. o Advise businesses on regulatory requirements for weights and measures and responding to public enquiries professionally. You may also be required to support the Consumer Product Safety regime by: • Assisting in the administration of product safety regulations and compliance framework. • Contributing to public education and awareness initiatives on consumer product safety.

What we are looking for

We are seeking candidates with foundation in science or engineering, and with an understanding of Singapore’s regulatory systems and legal frameworks. Specifically: • Qualifications in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Metrology, or similar fields is preferred. • At least 3 years of experience in regulatory compliance and audit within a public or private sector context. • Ability to conceptualise and implement outreach and education campaigns. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. • Strong analytical thinking, resourcefulness, and proactive in problem-solving. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. • Familiarity with Singapore’s legal and regulatory landscape, particularly in weights and measures regulations and standards would be advantageous.
