What the role is

This traineeship is with ther Manpower Research and Statistics Department (MRSD) provides statistics and analysis on Singapore’s workforce and the state of the labour market. The statistical information that it provides of the employment scene helps the government in shaping manpower policies and programmes and facilitate decision making of the community-at-large.

What you will be working on

• Manage the design and production of key labour market indicators. • Establish and implement MRSD statistical standards and quality assurance procedures to ensure professional rigor and credibility of statistical content. • Provide expertise on the use of alternative data sources and emerging data science methodologies and technologies to find innovative solutions and proxy indicators, which can help supplement and complement traditional statistics in assessing state of the labour market. • Build statistical capacity to promote statistical excellence in understanding the labour market situation.

What we are looking for

• Qualifications or competencies in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or other relevant field. • Experience in research and quantitative analysis. Candidates with coding and programming experience (e.g. Python, R) will be considered favourably. • Knowledge and understanding of theories, trends and approaches in the area(s) of machine learning/deep learning, natural language processing, large language modelling and econometrics modelling. • Research and analytical skills. • Good communication, presentation and writing skills. • Ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
