What the role is

The traineeship is with the Registry of Trade Unions with the Labour Relations and Workplaces Division’s (LRWD). LRWD's key functions include to enforce employment legislation, preserve workplace harmony, and advocate progressive workplace practices. The role of the Registry of Trade Unions is to promote the development of a democratic and responsible trade union movement through the registration and regulation of trade unions in Singapore. ​The role of the Registry of Platform Work Associations is to promote the development of a democratic and responsible platform work association movement through the registration and regulation of platform work associations in Singapore.

What you will be working on

Project title: Comparative study of Singapore’s trade unionism, trade unions legislation and best practices with other countries To conduct a comprehensive comparative analysis of Singapore’s trade unionism, trade unions legislation and best practices with other countries. This research will study regulatory frameworks, registration processes, governance structures and operational practices across different jurisdictions to benchmark best practices globally. What you will be working on: • Conduct extensive research on trade union registration systems across multiple jurisdictions • Analyse Singapore's Registry of Trade Unions framework, including legislative foundations, registration procedures, compliance requirements, corporate governance and administrative processes • Evaluate digital transformation initiatives and technological in work processes • Prepare comparative analysis reports with clear findings and recommendations

• Tertiary qualification in Social Science, law or other related fields • Analytical and problem-solving skills with critical thinking abilities for innovative solutions. • Excellent communicator with outstanding writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills for building relationships. • Collaborative team player eager to contribute to dynamic team environments and common goals. • Passionate about making a real difference and improving workplaces across Singapore.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
