What the role is

This traineeship is with the Work Pass Integrated System Project Office (WINS PO) team with the Work Pass Division (WPD). WPD is responsible for regulating the numbers as well as eligibility of foreigners who work in Singapore. We handle all transactions relating to the application, issuance, renewal and cancellation of a work pass. We take a human-centred approach to service delivery and strive to provide a seamless experience for our citizens and customers. To uphold the integrity of our system, we also put in place controls and work with other government agencies to detect and deter fraudulent work pass activities. In developing the new Work Pass Integrated System (WINS), it will consolidate all work pass transactions currently processed by various disparate legacy IT systems into a one-stop integrated one. This is a large-scale development project, which uses agile software development methodology to drive the design, build and deployment of applications and services.

What you will be working on

The trainee will provide coordination, monitoring and project evaluation support to a team delivering a new IT product. Key tasks include: 1. Assist the Product Owner to develop techniques to monitor performance of the product team. 2. Participate in daily processes to develop a new IT product and gather data points from these interactions. 3. Analyse product team performance and recommend interventions to address issues / reinforce good practices to the Product Owner. 4. Support project evaluation, including preparing related documentation/presentations for management. 5. Assist to codify key learnings in department manuals.

• Tertiary education in any field or relevant experience e.g. Software engineering, IT, Business Analysis • Good analytical and writing skills • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Team player • Meticulous • Able to work independently to engage multiple stakeholders

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
