What the role is

The Urban Design East (UDE) Department in URA shapes the planning and urban design strategies for key growth areas, strategic corridors, identity nodes, and significant development projects within and outside the Central Area in the East Region. We leverage digital tools to simulate, test, and evaluate various urban development scenarios, enabling us to formulate context-sensitive guidelines that incorporate environmental considerations. Our goal is to create vibrant, sustainable, and well-connected live-work-play environments. Additionally, we undertake targeted research in critical areas such as sustainability, urban heat island mitigation, and pedestrian comfort, ensuring our urban design plans remain robust and relevant. Our dedicated team also leads URA’s efforts in designing and activating delightful public spaces that enhance community identity and livability. This opportunity is under UDE.

What you will be working on

Kallang River Study • Support community events and oversee small-scale installation works • Learn and apply simple Urban Design (UD) simulations • Assist in preparing UD control plans Identity Corridors • Help organise and coordinate public engagement activities • Gain exposure to co-creation approaches in project development • Assist in scoping and planning public space project implementation Urban Design Studies (UDE) • Learn how to develop simple street block controls and Urban Design Guidelines (UDGs) • Support the team in drafting and refining UD materials Learning Outcomes The intern is expected to develop basic skills in urban design simulations, gain an understanding of design controls for waterfronts and promenades, and become familiar with policy reviews. He/She will also learn to organize public engagement activities, apply co-creation methods in project development, scope public space improvement projects, and acquire knowledge in creating simple street-block controls and UDGs.

What we are looking for

Internship Period: Full-time internship between Jan - Jun 2026 (we are open to 3/6-months internship).
