What the role is

This traineeship provides structured hands-on training in data management and engineering fundamentals, as well as valuable experience in stakeholder management and communications strategies. The trainee will work on two areas: (1) helping to manage a centralised HR data exchange for all government agencies; and (2) helping to drive user engagement and marketing for a whole-of-government HR data sharing and visualisation platform. The trainee will learn to maintain data quality standards, understand real-world data quality requirements and develop automated data management solutions using tools like Python and Power Query. Through close collaborations with the technical teams and business users, the trainee will develop professional stakeholder management skills and gain practical experience in investigating data issues and coordinating responses across departments. Additionally, the trainee will contribute to user engagement and marketing activities for a whole-of-government HR data sharing and visualisation platform, gaining valuable exposure to product promotion and user adoption strategies.

What you will be working on

As part of the team for a whole-of-government HR data exchange, you will: • Review workflows to recommend, develop and implement automation processes, including developing automation scripts to raise the productivity of existing data operations, e.g. routine data checks, data patches and re-loading, data investigations • Monitor and enhance existing Power Automate workflows used for routine operational data processing tasks • Compile and communicate the data exchange’s quarterly effectiveness report to stakeholders • Gather requirements, develop and automate new data operations, e.g. investigate, develop and verify rules for data masking and build the corresponding automation script, which may require collaboration with vendors / external consultants for effective solution testing • Be involved in the development of strategy and planning proposals for the modernisation of the HR data exchange As part of the team driving user engagement and marketing for a whole-of-government HR data sharing and visualisation platform, you will: • Be involved in the user engagement and marketing activities for the platform, maintaining the information on the intranet website • Contribute to various data initiatives within the Data Office when needed, including the development of data products, supporting analytics projects and/or data engineering tasks.

What we are looking for

Essential Requirements: • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills • Comfortable working with numerical data • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities • Digital literacy and ability to independently learn new IT tools • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities Desirable Experience: • Prior exposure to programming languages (e.g., Python) or data tools (e.g., Power Query) through coursework, internships, or personal projects • Experience with data analysis, process improvement, or stakeholder engagement from internships or university projects This is an entry-level position with mentorship provided.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
