What the role is

The Graduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

Join the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency as an AI Engineer Trainee in the Data Strategy & Analytics Division (DSAD). Trainees will be exposed to impactful projects in artificial intelligence and machine learning, supporting SSG's mission to enable individuals to learn for life, pursue skills mastery, and develop fulfilling careers for a future-ready Singapore.

Working alongside experienced engineers and data scientists, trainees will receive mentorship and training opportunities throughout their traineeship, developing both technical competencies and professional skills aligned with SSG's ACCOLade values of Adaptability, Commitment, Collaboration, Openness, and Learning.

What you will be working on

AI Implementation and Technical Development 

  • Assist with AI implementation tasks including data pipeline automation and model deployment under the guidance of experienced AI Engineers, developing foundational competencies in machine learning algorithms, data processing, and model optimisation  
  • Support the development and maintenance of comprehensive technical documentation for AI models and workflows, ensuring knowledge transfer and system sustainability while building technical writing and documentation skills 
  • Provide technical support for ongoing AI initiatives such as streamlining data processing workflows and supporting model validation processes, demonstrating problem-solving abilities and attention to detail 

AI Governance and Best Practices 

  • Help improve and operationalize the AI governance framework, ensuring adherence to best practices in model management and compliance, developing understanding of ethical AI deployment and regulatory requirements 
  • Collaborate with team members to integrate AI models into broader system architectures, demonstrating strong collaboration skills and technical adaptability in complex system environments; as well as participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance learning and contribute to the team’s collective expertise, embodying SSG's values of openness and continuous learning  

What we are looking for

  • Relevant academic background or training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Data Science or related field
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, or generative AI applications gained through academic studies, project work, or internship experience
  • Familiarity with Python programming language and AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn is advantageous
  • Willingness to learn about cloud platforms (AWS SageMaker), MLOps practices, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity for emerging technologies and innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with collaborative mindset to work effectively in teams

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.

About SkillsFuture Singapore

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Education (MOE). It will drive and coordinate the implementation of the national SkillsFuture movement, promote a culture and holistic system of lifelong learning through the pursuit of skills mastery, and strengthen the ecosystem of quality education and training in Singapore. SSG will strengthen the adult training infrastructure by taking on all existing functions of the Committee for Private Education (CPE) and guide the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) to enhance the capabilities and professionalism of adult educators. SSG will play a key role in the quality assurance for private education institutions and adult training centres. Together with educational institutions and training partners, SSG will ensure that students and working adults have access to high quality, industry-relevant training throughout life.
