What the role is

The Graduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

Join the National Jobs-Skills Data Office (NJSDO) as an AI Engineer Trainee and contribute to Singapore's data-driven approach to jobs and skills intelligence. The NJSDO serves as the central hub for jobs-skills data innovation, offering Data-as-a-Service, Insights-as-a-Service, and Algorithms-as-a-Service to support whole-of-government initiatives. Trainees will be involved in the critical processes that underpin the production of jobs-skills insights delivered via the Jobs-Skills Portal and APIs, supporting evidence-based policy and planning efforts.

Trainees will gain practical experience in data engineering, machine learning model development and deployment, while applying data quality frameworks and governance principles that ensure reliable and scalable data solutions.

What you will be working on

  • Design, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data supporting reporting requirements, analytical queries, and data science models, developing competencies in data architecture and systems integration 
  • Diagnose and resolve data integrity and pipeline issues while implementing automated monitoring systems for model performance, demonstrating problem-solving abilities and attention to data quality standards 
  • Develop and deploy robust artificial intelligence and machine learning models to solve complex business problems, as well as optimise models for performance and scalability in production environments, building expertise in algorithm selection and model training, and performance optimisation 
  • Establish comprehensive continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) processes for ML models using orchestration, and testing frameworks, developing competencies in MLOps and DevOps practice 
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide data solutions that meet business needs, showcasing strong stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills

What we are looking for

  • Relevant academic background or training in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in Python programming and strong SQL skills
  • Experience in AI/ML model development and deployment is advantageous
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Able to work independently with ability to collaborate and work effectively in team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.

About SkillsFuture Singapore

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Education (MOE). It will drive and coordinate the implementation of the national SkillsFuture movement, promote a culture and holistic system of lifelong learning through the pursuit of skills mastery, and strengthen the ecosystem of quality education and training in Singapore. SSG will strengthen the adult training infrastructure by taking on all existing functions of the Committee for Private Education (CPE) and guide the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) to enhance the capabilities and professionalism of adult educators. SSG will play a key role in the quality assurance for private education institutions and adult training centres. Together with educational institutions and training partners, SSG will ensure that students and working adults have access to high quality, industry-relevant training throughout life.
