What the role is

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touchpoint on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.

The Wildlife Management Division in Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) Cluster manages wildlife in Singapore and engages the community on human-wildlife encounters in our City in Nature.

What you will be working on

We are seeking passionate and highly motivated individuals to join our dynamic team, working alongside researchers on urban ecology and wildlife management projects.

The key work responsibilities include project management, conducting fieldwork in diverse environments, and performing data analysis. In line with NParks’ focus on using science and technology to enhance operations and research, the successful candidate will assist in ongoing projects that are exploring the use of latest technological advancements (e.g. drones, robotics, IoT, machine learning & AI) in applied research and operations to manage human-wildlife conflict.

What we are looking for

  • Relevant qualification in science or engineering-related disciplines (e.g. Applied Ecology, Environmental Sciences, AI / Robotics Engineering and other related disciplines)

  • Possess a keen interest in applying the use of technology for wildlife management operations and research. Familiarity and experience in handling drones, robotics, and AI will be an advantage

  • An organized, creative, and resourceful team player who can work independently

  • Experience in Python and R programming language is preferred

  • Possess good writing, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Enjoys working in an outdoor environment and preferably possessing a Class 3 driving license

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
