What the role is

The jobholder coordinates Fatwa research, including research conducted by Fatwa Lab associates. The role involves coordinating directions and communication with Fatwa researchers and Fatwa Lab associates, providing research direction and oversight, and coordinating collaboration with partner agencies for research purposes, while ensuring compliance with Fatwa methodology and alignment with the organisation's vision and mission.

What you will be working on

  • Coordinate fatwa research including presentations at Fatwa Committee meetings, for the purpose of irsyad development or for religious guidelines. This includes assigning research topics to RPDF officers, commissioning to external researchers, developing research questions and research outline, processing research honorarium, refining research papers and preparing slides fit for presentation to Fatwa Meeting.

  • Coordinate research by Fatwa Lab associates: manage research projects and teams, and coordinate between team and mentors, initiating and coordinating communications with agency partners, oversee completion of projects including papers, presentation of research to principals, and developing summaries for FL Insights content.

  • Oversee publication of Fatwa Lab Insight bi-annually.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge management system of (i) Fatwa research (ii) Fatwa records. This includes upkeeping of fatwa records since 1968 and developing system for referral/retrieval system for research purposes.

  • Preparation of concept and approval papers on key issues as directed by RO/Muftiship.

  • Facilitate cross-unit collaboration for Mufti's priority initiatives.

What we are looking for

  • Tertiary education or equivalent in Islamic studies, with Islamic Law (Syariah) as an advantage.

  • Fluent in English, Malay and Arabic (written and spoken) due to the nature of fatwa research which requires reviewing religious texts and scholarly works in Arabic, communicating with diverse stakeholders in multiple languages, and producing research outputs accessible to both English and Malay-speaking audiences.

  • Have at least 2 years of work and research experience in Islamic studies or related fields.

  • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills.

  • Organised and independent worker.

Successful candidate will be appointed on contract basis.
