What the role is

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is seeking a motivated GRIT@Gov Trainee to join our Maritime Digital Capability team under the Innovation, Technology & Talent Development (ITTD) Division. ITTD Division focuses on catalysing the transformation of the maritime industry, through the development of a vibrant innovation ecosystem with strong technological capabilities, building new or growing enterprise capabilities that is supported by an agile and competent workforce equipped with a global mind-set. you will be involved in the transformation work at Maritime Digital Capability (MDC) department, with the mission to accelerate industry digital transformation and capability development. What you will be working on

Key roles and responsibilities include:

a. Lead industry capability development programmes and projects in one or more areas, such as artificial intelligence/data, modelling and simulation, quantum tech, trade & supply chain, and cybersecurity. You would also have the opportunities to develop industry development programmes such as digital bunkering, digital agents, digital ship supplies, electronic bill of lading, and maritime data hub.

b. Relationship and account management. Engage industry players and technology developers to curate challenges/opportunities and technology roadmaps.

c. Lead SWOT analysis, value chain studies, technology scan and provide recommendations on strategies and action plans.

d. Organise design thinking workshops, outreach events/webinars and communication channels.

e. Grow technology/R&D partnerships and networks with leading global maritime clusters and organisations.

f. Work with relevant agencies and R&D organisations on joint innovation initiatives and outreach events.

g. Evaluate technical proposals seeking grants and other forms of support.

What we are looking for

  • Relevant training and industry experience in ICT, science and engineering, innovation and technology, sustainability, maritime, shipping and port, and/or intellectual property. Candidates with no prior experience may also apply.
  • Be an effective communicator and presenter, competent in both spoken and written English, and able to deal with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Possess strong people skills, design thinking skill, and a passion for technology and innovation, meeting people and selling ideas.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
