What the role is

This role focuses on keeping Singapore's sewerage systems (pipes, treatment facilities, and drainage networks) running smoothly through planned maintenance and coordination with various parties. As part of the GRIT@Gov Traineeship initiative, this position provides comprehensive exposure to infrastructure management, from predictive maintenance systems to contract administration. Trainees will develop technical assessment skills, stakeholder engagement capabilities, and regulatory compliance knowledge while contributing to innovative solutions that optimise maintenance effectiveness and resource allocation.

What you will be working on

1. Develop and implement maintenance regimes / programmes by conducting comprehensive structural assessments of sewerage infrastructure to address structural deterioration and defects effectively. 2. Develop and implement maintenance regimes/programmes for sewerage infrastructure by analysing historical data, including past blockage incidents, customer feedback, and site investigation findings to minimise service disruptions. 3. Conduct thorough root cause analyses and provide recommendations, including workflow improvements, action plans, and policy updates to prevent issue from recurring. 4. Review technical submissions from development projects to ensure compliance with the Code of Practice (Sewerage and Sanitary Works), Sewerage and Drainage Act, and related regulations, so as to safeguard the space required for repair, maintenance, and to protect the sewerage infrastructure of damage. 5. Coordinate/liaise with stakeholders, including feedback providers/member of public, during service disruption and/or ahead of planned maintenance activities, to minimise service disruptions and public inconvenience. 6. Conceptualise and develop and/or assess innovative solutions and predictive systems to enhance maintenance regime’s effectiveness while optimising resources and operational processes. 7. Conduct periodic reviews of Standard Operating Procedures and work processes to ensure continued relevance and optimal resource utilisation. 8. Carry out site inspections to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements by the term contractors. 9. Manage administrative functions including review and process work orders and service reports for payment recommendation, carry out tender preparations for maintenance contracts.

What we are looking for

• Degree in Civil / Environmental / Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering • Able to work well independently and in teams • Good communication and interpersonal skills and possess a positive, can-do attitude • Proficient in IT, e.g. use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel spreadsheet, Powerpoint, etc.) and with data analytics tools such as Qlik Sense would be an advantage

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
