Design & Planning Lab (DPLab) is a group within URA driving URA’s Urban Planning & Design Technology Centre of Excellence (URBEX) efforts. Our teams with capabilities in software development, geospatial analytics, urban design modelling & simulation, data science, AI / ML, data engineering, data governance and management, work closely with planners, architects, policy makers across various agencies, as well as external partners, to generate insights and develop tools and solutions to tackle Singapore's urban planning challenges. The Data Engineering (DE) Team in the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is responsible for applying advanced methods in data engineering to enhance various aspects of urban planning and development. The team comprises data engineers, analysts, cloud engineer, and planners who work together to provide innovative solutions to complex urban challenges. Join our team to contribute to the Planning Sectoral Data Hub (PSDH), a key data platform supporting diverse planning sectors. This role offers an exciting, dynamic, and enriching experience where you’ll engage with a variety of users and stakeholders to enhance the capabilities and reliability of PSDH. You will play a critical role in strengthening the data pipeline and implementing automated regression testing strategies, ensuring data integrity, reliability, and accuracy. What you will be working on
Data Platform Enhancement for PSDH
1. Data Pipelines – Improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency of data ingestion, transformation, and integration processes.
2. Automation & Testing – Assist with implementing automation for workflows, testing, and monitoring to reduce manual effort and improve resilience.
3. Monitoring & Governance – Assist in strengthening platform monitoring, security, and compliance practices. This may include enhancing logging and alerting, improving reporting or dashboard features to make insights more accessible, and supporting governance activities such as reviewing access controls and ensuring compliance with data policies.
4. Backlog & Documentation – Help review the current platform setup, identify gaps, and maintain a product backlog of improvements, supported by proper documentation.
Learning Outcomes:
• Gain hands-on experience in enhancing a large-scale data platform, including improving data pipelines, monitoring, and governance practices.
• Build technical skills in cloud-based platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure) for data engineering, analytics, and operational improvements.
• Develop an understanding of security, compliance, and data governance considerations within a government-grade data environment.
• Strengthen problem-solving skills by identifying areas for platform improvement and contributing to a prioritized product backlog.
• Improve collaboration and communication skills through working with cross-functional teams and presenting findings or enhancements clearly.
What we are looking for
Interns who are able to commit full-time from Jan - May 2026 (6-months) / May - Aug 2026 (3-months)

• Students pursuing Computer Science / Information Technology, or relevant studies
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, Git
• Knowledge in Azure Cloud (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks) is an added advantage
