Manager/ JLG Horticulture and Gardening Outreach

What the role is

We are seeking an experienced Horticulture and Gardening Outreach Manager to oversee horticultural operations, community engagement, and educational leadership at Jurong Lake Gardens, with particular focus on Chinese Garden, Therapeutic Garden and the 4-hectare Edible Garden.

What you will be working on

You will manage lush and vibrant gardens to serve the recreational and lifestyle pursuits of our community: 

 

Operations and Maintenance

Manage day-to-day arboriculture, horticulture operations and estate management for Chinese Garden and Therapeutic Garden, ensuring optimal plant health and garden presentation standards. Maintain the gardens as a flagship example for community gardens and the landscape industry, showcasing best practices that others can learn from and emulate.

 

Edible Garden Management

Lead the curation and maintenance of the 4-hectare Edible Garden within Chinese Garden, providing specialised care for thematic areas including the Plant Factory and Kitchen Garden. Propagate plants for introduction, plant trials and showcase. Oversee renewal and maintenance programmes to showcase exemplary garden conditions, manage unique plant collections, and demonstrate best practices in edible garden artistry and sustainable gardening techniques.

 

Community Engagement

Develop and implement community engagement and educational activities and programmes that facilitate access to plant and biodiversity education, foster community connection with nature and sustainable gardening practices.

What we are looking for

  • Areas of study in Horticulture, Plant Science, Botany, Landscape Architecture or related field.

  • Relevant experience in horticultural management, community outreach, and educational programming or related fields.

  • Strong knowledge of edible and tropical plants, sustainable gardening practices, and arboriculture.

  • Excellent communication, programme development, and leadership skills.

  • Enjoy working outdoors, experience in managing large-scale garden operations and industry demonstration projects.

  • Able to multi-task in performing a diverse range of duties, including enforcement when required.

  • Willing to work after office hours and during weekends and public holidays when required.
