What the role is

The trainee will search for and test internal and external economic indicators related to trade for use in modeling of trade in services data. The trainee will also research, identify and develop new models for modeling services trade.

What you will be working on

Project Deliverables: - Identification of predictive indicators: Research and identify potential economic indicators that are predictive of trends in Singapore’s services trade with key trade partners. - Testing and validation of indicators: Test selected indicators to assess their predictive strength in services trade performance. - Develop New or Refine Current Predictive Model: Research, identify and develop a new predictive model or enhance existing models to better forecast Singapore’s services trade flows. Learning Outcomes: - Understanding trade drivers: The trainee will develop a strong understanding of both internal and external drivers of Singapore’s services trade. - Application of predictive modelling: The trainee will gain practical experience in applying predictive modelling techniques to macroeconomic data, including model development, data cleaning, feature selection, and validation.

What we are looking for

- Experience with R (preferred) and its packages for data processing and modeling. Familiarity with Python or other similar programming languages is a plus. - Basic understanding of economic indicators and their relevance to trade and services. - Experience with data collection, cleaning, and visualization.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
