What the role is

What you will be working on

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct research in rodent ecology, including laboratory testing of biological samples
  • Perform field sampling and data collection at various sites across Singapore
  • Analyse research data using statistical methods and data analytics tools
  • Coordinate research projects and maintain project timelines

What we are looking for

The traineeship might be for you if you possess the following qualities:

  • Degree in Rodent/Small Mammal Ecology, Zoology, or related life sciences field
  • Strong laboratory skills in molecular biology techniques (including DNA barcoding, qPCR and NGS methodologies)
  • Knowledge of small mammal systematics, biology, ecology, and/or field surveillance methods
  • Basic proficiency in biostatistics and statistical software packages
  • Physically fit for fieldwork activities
  • Experienced in animal dissection and morpho-taxonomy (preferred)
  • Experience in BSL-2 laboratory work (preferred)
  • Valid Class 3 driving licence with willingness to drive to field sites (vehicle provided)

Successful applicant will be offered a 6-months traineeship.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
