What the role is

This traineeship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital transformation within laboratory environments. The trainee will support the implementation of digital solutions to enhance laboratory operations, for example inventory management systems and automated monitoring technologies. Through this role, you will develop competencies in project management, stakeholder engagement, system implementation, user training, and technical documentation whilst gaining valuable exposure to laboratory automation and digitalisation initiatives.

What you will be working on

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the digital solutions e.g. laboratory inventory management system, centralised temperature monitoring system
  • Oversee project progress in accordance with requirements and contract terms
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback
  • Prepare user guides and standard operating procedures for system users
  • Plan and execute user acceptance training and system validation activities
  • Facilitate user training sessions to ensure smooth system adoption

What we are looking for

  • Degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry or related scientific disciplines
  • Practical experience in laboratory operations through internships or final year projects
  • Demonstrated interest in laboratory automation and digital transformation initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and data analysis tools
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management skills
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments
  • Adaptable mindset with eagerness to learn new technologies and processes

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.

About Singapore Food Agency

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health. The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
