What the role is

HTX is the first Science and Technology Agency of its kind in the world, bringing together science and engineering capabilities across the Home Team Departments to transform Singapore's homeland security landscape. We are a statutory board under the Ministry of Home Affairs, dedicated to developing cutting-edge technologies that empower our Home Team to solve crimes, save lives, secure borders, and safeguard public spaces. As a Platform Engineer on the Developer Experience squad, you will build the foundational integrations that power HTX's AI developer co-pilot. You will work alongside senior engineers to create secure, reliable connectors to our platform's toolchain GitLab, Jira, Confluence enabling developers to interact with these systems through natural language. This is a hands-on role perfect for engineers who want to work at the intersection of AI and platform engineering while contributing to Home Team's mission-critical operations.

What you will be working on

• Tool Connector Development: Build and maintain Python-based API connectors for GitLab (repositories, merge requests, pipelines), Jira (issues, comments, transitions), and Confluence (documentation search, page retrieval) • VS Code Extension: Contribute to the VS Code extension frontend, implementing chat interfaces, code suggestion displays, and interactive debugging features • RAG Pipeline: Build and maintain the documentation ingestion pipeline, transforming Confluence pages and GitLab documentation into vector embeddings for semantic search • Testing & Quality: Write comprehensive unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests to ensure connector reliability and catch regressions • Documentation: Create clear technical documentation for connector APIs, authentication flows, and troubleshooting guides • Deployment: Package connectors as containerized services, define Kubernetes manifests, and support deployment to our platform environment • User Feedback: Participate in user testing sessions, gather feedback from pilot users, and iterate on connector behavior based on real-world usage

What we are looking for

• 3+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in backend or platform development • Strong Python programming skills with experience building production services • Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and HTTP protocols • Experience with at least one of: GitLab API, GitHub API, Jira API, or Confluence API(good to have) • Basic knowledge of containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms • Familiarity with Git workflows and version control best practices • Testing mindset with experience writing unit and integration tests (pytest, unittest) • Experience with TypeScript and VS Code extension development • Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI/ML concepts • Understanding of vector databases and embedding models • Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration • Experience with OAuth2/OIDC authentication flows • Prior work in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles Competencies: • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills • Self-motivated learner who can quickly understand new APIs and systems • Attention to detail in API integration and error handling • Clear communicator who documents work and shares knowledge • Team player who collaborates well and asks for help when needed All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
