The Built Environment (BE) sector is integral to the design, construction and maintenance of Singapore’s cityscape and infrastructure. However, the sector will need to confront the existential challenges of global climate change, energy and manpower constraints, changing demographics and values, and ageing infrastructure in the coming years. Addressing these challenges requires the ability to manage the trade-offs between the desired outcomes of greater safety, resiliency, quality, sustainability, liveability and as well as to strike a balance between industry regulation and development/promotion.
