Senior/Executive Scientific Officer (Tuas South Incineration Plant)

What the role is

The Tuas South Incineration Plant (TSIP) is responsible for the incineration of waste and the heat generated from the incineration process is recovered to produce electricity. You will be part of a team in TSIP to support the incineration process by ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory and that the water treatment plant produces high purity demineralised water for use by the boilers for the heat recovery process.

What you will be working on

You will work as a scientific officer in Tuas South Incineration Plant to ensure the laboratory, treatment plants and its auxiliary equipment are operating smoothly, safely and efficiently. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Consolidate and analyse data for process quality control; manage laboratory records and submission of data to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements

  • Ensure proper storage, transportation, handling, and disposal of samples collected, as well as calibration and regular maintenance is carried out on equipment as per standing operating procedure/ equipment manufacturer’s recommended practice

  • Conducts tests on process samples, emissions/ effluents to ensure test results meet acceptable range in accordance to established procedures

  • Develop and implement preventive equipment maintenance schedules taking into account needs on ad-hoc basis

  • Procurement of goods and services, tracks inventory, monitors and evaluates contractor’s work performance, and administer the contracts for the smooth operation of laboratory and water treatment plant

  • Assist in the formulation, preparation / revision of standard operating and safety procedures, laboratory testing and plant emergencies procedures

  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry /Chemistry and Biological Chemistry

  • Preferably 6months to 1 year of working/internship experience in a laboratory, or operation of water treatment plant of a chemical process plant/ power plant

  • Pleasant personality; mature, independent and resourceful; highly self-motivated; patient and resilient; adaptable to diverse work scopes

  • Integrity and good interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Analytical with good writing, communication and problem solving skills

  • Ability to lead, interact and foster team work

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
