What the role is

This is a contract position till 31 Dec 2026 as an Engineer, R&D in the School of Engineering

What you will be working on

The role involves contributing to applied R&D projects in automation and robotics across sectors such as Construction, Facilities Management, Service Robotics, and Marine Offshore. Responsibilities include system design and integration, software development, proposal support, and market research. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of industry experience, strong programming skills (C++/Python), and hands-on experience with ROS and AI technologies.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Drive R&D efforts in automation and robotics tailored to industry needs.

  • Design and integrate electro-mechanical/electronic components into unmanned systems to enhance productivity.

  • Develop, test, and qualify robotic software packages for autonomous systems, robotic vision, AI, and system interoperability.

  • Lead or assist in project proposal development and conduct market surveys of emerging technologies.

  • Translate requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Robotics, Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Proven expertise in developing mechatronic systems.

  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python for control software development.

  • Experience in software and system integration for autonomous mobile robots, robotic manipulators, sensor fusion, and AI.

  • Hands-on experience with Robot Operating System (ROS).

  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
