Places of worship models for a high-density, land scarce Singapore

Internship
Closing on 31 Dec 2026

What the role is

You will support MND Strategic Planning Division (SPD) in several projects. With increasing pace of change and uncertainty in the operating environment, SPD plays a critical role in stewarding Singapore’s limited land resources to meet the needs and aspirations of Singaporeans, while ensuring that land use remains sustainable, flexible, adaptable and resilient for the future. In particular, there are significant shifts in land planning that need to be made to tighten linkages with our economic strategy, as well as to meet the diverse accommodation needs of Singaporeans and foreigners.

What you will be working on

Singapore has made several policy innovations to cater for diverse religious space needs. As we become higher density, the traditional model of low rise, single use places of worship could become less sustainable over time. In this project, you will explore innovative models for integrating places of worship with compatible land uses, considering the economics (e.g. incentives and ownership structure) and policy needed for such models to be viable.

What we are looking for

This role will require critical thinking and problem solving, independent learning, stakeholder management, and excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.
