What the role is

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.

What you will be working on

You will be involved in the development of a new Shelter Management System (SMS) by reviewing the functional documents, identify functional gaps and exploring new functions to support the shelter operations. You will also be involved in a logistics service tender and will be gathering the requirements for the development of the tender. As part of your daily work, you will also be assisting with shelter operations, including the following:

  • Assist veterinarians in veterinary examination, triage, veterinary and surgical procedures, restraint, medication and health records of animals
  • Support the management and upkeep of the shelter clinic, including inventory management of drugs and consumables
  • Support the daily care and well-being of animals, including treatment, feeding, husbandry, exercise, showering and grooming of animals
  • Support administrative tasks of the shelter such as animal record keeping and filing
  • Assist with rehoming procedures including pre and post-adoption support and guidance and adoption interviews

What we are looking for

  • Diploma in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Bioscience or Biomedical Science preferred
  • Competent in handling, restraint and medication of common companion animal species, including but not limited to dogs, cats, small mammals and birds and limited species of aquatic animals
  • Positive attitude, meticulous, energetic, possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and passionate about animals.
  • Independent and able to work effectively with others in a team environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Required to work on weekends and public holidays based on roster
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications
