What the role is

The Senior Curriculum Developer/Faculty Member will contribute to the development and delivery of an innovative undergraduate degree programme curriculum for the Singapore College of Islamic Studies (SCIS), combining advanced interdisciplinary Islamic scholarship with cutting-edge pedagogical methods to create learner-centred, industry-relevant curricula for multicultural Singapore.


The successful candidate will bridge modern Social Science disciplines with traditional Islamic knowledge andwith modern interdisciplinary approaches, preparing future Asatizah who are adept in applying Islamic principles and social science concepts and theories to navigate contemporary societal challenges. As a potential future faculty member of SCIS, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to institutional academic development whilst advancing interdisciplinary Islamic studies through research, quality teaching, and curriculum innovation.

Applicants will be appointed as either Senior Curriculum Developer only or Senior Curriculum Developer/Faculty Member based on appropriate qualifications, expertise and experience.

What you will be working on

The SCIS undergraduate degree programme’s curriculum structure includes modules that will be offered by partner universities and those that will be developed in-house.

The Senior Curriculum Developer/Faculty Member will be tasked to develop the in-house undergraduate module packages which will include the syllabi, assessment plan, instructional materials, recommended readings, digital learning resources, textbooks, etc.​ They will also be tasked to deliver these modules, if appropriate.

They will each be assigned to minimally one of these 3 focus areas. 
a) Thematic Modules 

b) Social Science/ Social Development Modules

c) Interdisciplinary Tutorials

Core Competencies:

1. Curriculum Design Expertise (including Pedagogy & Assessment) & Delivery Excellence: Develop and enhance learner-centred, industry-relevant curriculum that engages learners, using effective teaching methods, educational technology, and assessment approaches for higher education whilst maintaining ethical integrity and fostering an inclusive learning environment. Experience in teaching in blended or online modes using learner centred methods, particularly applied learning methods at higher education level will be advantageous.

2. Scholarly Expertise and Research Excellence: Deep knowledge of the foundational social science disciplines such as Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Area Studies, Religious Studies, and/or humanities (eg. History and Philosophy) and disciplines within the domain of social development (such as Counselling, Social Work, Psychology etc) combined with competence in conducting academic research, critical analysis, and contributing to knowledge creation within Islamic studies and related fields. Research interest in topics such as social cohesion, family, religion in plural societies, politics and governance, history, intersections of science, technology and religion, gender studies and the study of Muslim communities will be an advantage.

3. Interdisciplinary Integration and Contemporary Relevance: Ability to meaningfully connect Islamic knowledge with insights from social sciences and humanities, applying interdisciplinary Islamic teachings to current societal challenges and contexts to make religious knowledge practical and meaningful for contemporary multicultural Singapore.

4. Academic Communication and Collaboration: Excellent academic writing and presentation skills - in English and/or Arabic languages - for developing course materials and programme documentation. Strong interpersonal abilities for collaborating effectively with team members, curriculum coordinators and course administrators across different subject areas.

5. Time Management: Proven ability to manage curriculum design timelines effectively, balancing thorough academic development with institutional deadlines. Skills in prioritising tasks across different aspects of the curriculum and ensuring timely delivery of course materials and programme documentation.

Additional Competencies:

1. Technology Integration: Proficiency in educational technology platforms suitable for interdisciplinary higher education including digital libraries, online learning and multimedia resources is advantageous.  

What we are looking for

Qualifications:

Tertiary education in Social Sciences, Humanities, Islamic Studies, Islamic Law, Educational Philosophy, or related interdisciplinary fields, with a strong foundation in humanities and social sciences scholarship from recognised institutions. International academic credentials, particularly from established universities, are highly valued.

There are two vacancies available for this post.

Successful candidate will be appointed on contract basis.
