What you will be working on
This internship will offer you an opportunity to gain exposure to innovation policy planning and development. Through the study, you would learn more about emerging deep tech sectors at the forefront of future economic development, analyse trends and practices through global benchmarking, as well as develop an appreciation of key policy considerations in the formulation of innovation policies to enable economic growth.
Deep Tech Landscape Study
Deep Tech refers to an advanced/specialised scientific or engineering field with the presence of research-based Intellectual Properties that are differentiated/ proprietary and will create novel products/processes with real-world application(s). These are unique technologies which can generate outsized economic returns and are difficult to replicate. This study would be a deep dive into the emerging areas of deep tech to achieve the following:
- Identifying potential deep tech area(s) for Singapore to develop and invest in for the future. A global landscape scan, including desktop research and engagement with stakeholders, to develop an understanding of where Singapore’s right to play/win in deep tech is.
- Providing analysis of deep tech area(s) based on a set of evaluation criteria established.
- Building an ecosystem map and value chain establishing key stakeholders such as startups, public institutions, enterprises, talent, for specific deep tech areas identified.
- To support the innovation, research and development division in reviewing existing schemes and formulating policies on deep tech and innovation, to drive greater economic impact for Singapore.
R&D/Innovation talent landscape study
- Develop a landscape map of the Research, Innovation & Enterprise (RIE) schemes that support the attraction and development of R&D and innovation talent. Propose recommendations to strengthen the talent ecosystem to support economic objectives
What we are looking for
• Interest in current affairs, especially in relation to global economic and geopolitical developments
• General interest in innovation and technology, in relation to emerging areas of technology and sciences. (Note: A Science & technology background is not required)
• Ability to conduct independent learning and research work
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders
• High initiative and resourcefulness in solving new problems
