MTI Internship: Breaking Barriers: Analysis of Non-Tariff Barriers Affecting Sin

Internship
Closing on 05 Feb 2026

What the role is

ASEAN Division - Breaking Barriers: Analysis of Non-Tariff Barriers Affecting Singapore's Trade

What you will be working on

The intern would be expected to conduct comprehensive research and analysis to further MTI’s efforts to addressing non-tariff barriers (NTBs) affecting Singapore’s exports. You will be responsible for producing a report with analysis on NTB trends, and recommendations to tackle the top NTBs faced by Singapore’s companies, in particular Singapore’s exports within the ASEAN region. Your analysis and recommendations will support MTI’s work to assist companies in tackling NTBs, and inform our priorities and engagement strategies at FTA negotiations and trade facilitation platforms, both at the ASEAN and international level. Through this project, you will build capabilities in trade policy analysis, data analysis, and strategic thinking whilst working on issues that directly affect Singapore's economic interests. The project will strengthen your understanding of how regional trade architecture functions and how governments navigate complex multilateral negotiations. You'll gain practical experience in policy writing, stakeholder analysis, and developing evidence-based recommendations for senior decision-makers.

What we are looking for

• Applicants should be in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies and have a strong interest in global trade, international relations, policy work and more importantly, ASEAN. • Applicants should be meticulous, and possess good research, critical thinking and writing skills. It will be a bonus if applicants are inquisitive and willing to undertake new technical disciplines/tasks on the job. • Prior internship experience in a related field is not necessary, but a plus.
